In the Wagakuria area of the Serengeti National Park, there are large prides of lions that can number up to 30 individuals. From August to October, however, the region transforms into a wildlife haven. The Mara River is the main feature, and it is normal to witness the herds cross it once, heading north, and then again, heading south, a few days later. Please be aware that finding a crossing in the first place can be very challenging and occasionally depends on luck.

Day Four (4): Tanzania Private safari to Serengeti National Park (North Mara)
Enjoy a magnificent full day of wildlife viewing along the Mara River after breakfast while watching the huge migration cross the river. Return to the camp in the evening for a bonfire, food, and sleep. August marks the beginning of daily river crossings at Kogatende as the massive herd begins to congregate there. The best time to see wildlife up here is from August to October, when daily river crossings are practically certain. Following the rains and ensuing fresh grasses, the herds typically cross the river back and forth with no discernible movement. On the same day, it is not unusual to observe various herds crossing in various directions.
